September 2007 : the beginning of electrofork jewelry.
Stark, eye-catching and romantic: black and white photographs from travels local and distant, printed diminutively in high detail become resin-filled pieces in sterling and silverplate.
I was interested in resin jewelry because I love the idea of image as gemstone. The thought occurred to me in the autumn of ‘07 that I might make my own. WIth a fair amount of experience in working with polymer resin (albeit on a much larger scale), and a vast catlologue of photographs at my disposal, I decided to delve in.
The photos I was drawn to for the collection were my travel images, specifically black and white, for their timelessness and clarity of composition. There is something, too, about the scale that when the photos are transmuted into objects with the alchemy of resin and silver, turns them into something else altogether, like souvenirs of daydreams or talismans bound with the magic of elsewhere.
